Georgina Hickson has lived her life doing everything she is supposed to do in order to land the titled husband her family requires. When she met Paul Abbot at a gathering at a friend’s, it was the first time she ever wanted more. But more is something she knows she cannot have.
Paul has been in love with Georgina since the moment he laid eyes on her two years before, but he knows he isn’t good enough for her and it can never be. But when he finds out she desperately wants to see a special exhibit in London, he agrees to take her. But can a stolen moment, a stolen kiss and a whispered confession lead to happiness or heartache?
MY THOUGHTS
Georgina Hickson is a lady who has been following the rules of the ton. Seeing her friends marry for love also made her wish for more and she has been trying to hide her feelings for Paul Abbot, a manager of a notorious club. Wanting to experience more freedom, she asks Paul for help. That is when the sparks fly.
I was a little underwhelmed with this story. Although it was a really quick read for me, I wasn’t able to connect with the two main characters. I thought that the storyline was rushed (just because it IS a novella doesn’t mean it has to be) and not well fleshed out. I see a lot of promise with the two characters and had hoped that this was a full novel and not a novella. The way both characters fell in love felt too shallow and did not really give a good enough reason for them to fall in love.
The one unique thing about this erotica is that the sexytimes happen AFTER they get married! Oh sure, there was some touching involved prior to the wedding but the heroine essentially was chaste before the wedding.
I really wish this was a longer book and I wanted to give it a higher rate but – disappointed. I like Jess Michaels’ writing style and recommend reading the other books in the series: The Other Duke (The Notorious Flynns #1), The Scoundrel’s Lover (The Notorious Flynns #2), and The Widow Wager (The Notorious Flynns #3).
I would read it for the title and the cover!
However, I like my books longer… but I love erotic romance so maybe you can count me in x)
Lovely review
