My Thoughts

When I said I had never read SEP before, people gasp. Then they go ahead and recommend the Chicago Stars series or they tell me I HAVE to read Kiss an Angel. Naturally, I avoided the book like the plague! In fact, I received a copy of this book in mass market paperback in my last Avon Addicts box a few years ago. Now I know why this book is HIGHLY recommended. I mean, PEOPLE, if you HAVEN’T read Kiss an Angel, the time to read it is NOW.

Kiss an Angel is probably one of the most memorable books I’ve ever read or listened to. WOW. The romance was really good, but the character development was stellar and it actually jumps at you without you realizing that you have been captivated by each of the unique and interesting characters!

To top it all off, this book is set in the CIRCUS! Think The Greatest Showman or Barnum and Baileys! Daisy Devereaux is forced to marry – an edict from Daisy’s father. They have to stay married for 6 months otherwise Daisy wouldn’t get her inheritance and she already finds herself in huge debt!

Enter Alexander Markov – an arrogant circus manager and performer, specifically picked by Daisy’s father for her to marry. Of course, there are sparks between the two. Of course, these two hate each other at first sight. OF COURSE, THERE IS AWESOME BANTER!

Initially, I didn’t really care for Daisy. But it was quite obvious early on that her character arc would have a drastic change. It was a subtle change throughout the book and before I knew it, I was as captivated by her as Alex was!

Kiss an Angel had a lot of LOL moments, and also awwww moments. I mean, the fact that Daisy befriends three circus animals was amazing. And yes, I ultimately UGLY CRIED.

Daisy absolutely stole the show in this book. Never mind the swoony Alex – it was Daisy that I loved and I could not help but root for her almost from the start!

I ultimately regret not reading this book as early as I could. I mean, this book was first published in 1996 and IT STANDS THE TEST OF TIME! Kiss an Angel is indeed a timeless tale of redemption and love.

I also can’t review this book without mentioning Alex. While he is the typical alphahole hero, he ultimately redeems himself in the end.

“I don’t love you anymore”, she whispered. “I don’t love you at all.”

His throat closed. “It’s all right, sweetheart. I love you enough for both of us.”

Alex does turn out to be an amazing and strong hero, who really was taught how to love by an equally strong heroine!

Kiss an Angel is read by Anna Fields. Like my review for It Had to Be You also read by Anna Fields, I don’t really care for her narration as much as the other narrators. However, I’ve gotten used to her voice and it doesn’t annoy me as much as it did when I first listened to It Had to Be You. In fact, I think her tone and voices match SEPs stories that I actually don’t mind her narration any more!

I highly recommend Kiss an Angel! It is one book that I will probably reread forever! And I think I want a pet tiger and elephant now!

Also, I keep hearing the song Greatest Show from the movie The Greatest Showman while listening to this book!

I’ve read the Wynette, Texas books and a scattered few of the Chicago Stars. I’m planning on reading the entire Chicago Stars series this year. I will add Kiss an Angel to my TBR. I am pretty sure it is on my shelf already! Thanks for the review!
