CEO-in-training, heiress and cosmetics company marvel Isabel Alfonso needs to hire an assistant. She needs to hire someone who is smart and competent to arrange a trip to Shanghai for her to meet with potential business partners. She needs to learn how to let go of her cosmetics company, her baby, in order to take on the CEO role which she’s been groomed for her entire life. What she does not need to hire is a young single dad, last seen with her in bed as a one night stand.
Falling for Adam Sevilla is a complication that Isabel doesn’t need. And with so much on the line, she can’t afford to make any mistakes. Can she really leave everything behind, just to head the family business? Or will she hold on to what she has with zero guarantees?
How She Likes by Carla de Guzman was a fun and refreshing read! In fact, it’s my first Romance Class book ever! Obviously, it will not be the last!
First, I just want to say that I have been wanting to read a Romance Class book for a few years now, but there have been multiple things preventing me from reading them. One of it is the fact that I didn’t really read a lot of contemporary romances until this year when I finally dived in and fell in love with the genre!
Now, let’s talk about How She Likes It! It’s the second book in the series and you can definitely read it as a standalone. However, I’m now left wanting to read the first book in the series!
How She Likes It features an older heroine CEO and her single-dad personal assistant, who is a beta hero! Now, I am not a fan of beta heroes, but I gave this book a chance and I don’t regret it at all!
I loved the heroine, Isabel. She is in her early 30s and owns her own company but she is also in line to take over her father’s business if the board picks her over her best friend. Again, I love a woman with a take-charge personality and Isabel fits the bill to a T. She meets a random guy at a bar and has a one night stand with him, thinking she would never see him again. But what do you know, the guy turns out to be her new personal assistant!
Sparks fly between Isabel and Adam and I do love their chemistry! Adam is a soft-spoken man and he is also very sensitive, owing to the fact that he has two older sisters who he is close to. Adam does come off as a really immature kid, but at times, he also feels mature for his age.
What I did appreciate is that Adam is a responsible single dad, co-parenting with his ex-girlfriend, but Adam is the main parent. I truly appreciate this because I grew up with my dad who wasn’t a very involved dad, so while it was bittersweet for me to read this, I liked that it showed that a man was the responsible one.
There are a lot of things in How She Likes It that I could relate to, which is really great! Overall, I enjoyed the book and I am looking forward to reading Carla’s other backlist books!
