A Montana Man risks everything for the woman he loves . . .
Undercover DEA Special Agent Dawson King spent five months in a Montana prison establishing a fake identity to take down a ruthless drug dealer and put him behind bars. Except there’s a wild card . . . the killer’s beloved daughter. Cara Potter may appear to be on the right side of the law, but King has learned the hard way to trust no one—even someone as tantalizing as the coffee shop owner. She’s irresistible . . . but is she also dangerous?
From the moment he enters her life, King makes Cara . . . nervous. The handsome drifter says he wants to get his life together . . . but there is something about him that doesn’t quite ring true. Cara wants to believe in him, yet she holds back despite the way he awakens dormant dreams and leaves her breathless with his sexy smile, steamy kisses, his every touch.
When the explosive truth comes out and she’s betrayed by the ones she loves, Cara must decide—can she trust her heart, or should she listen to her head?

True to You by Jennifer Ryan is the first book that I read by her and this won’t be my last! I was a bit hesitant to start this book because this isn’t usually my type but I thought the blurb was interesting.
Man, did I choose right! True to You is an emotional and heartbreaking book about lies and redemption and family. And yes, I was bawling my eyes out and ugly crying practically for the whole book!
The heroine is AWESOME!
I love Cara! She was a heroine that I was not expecting at all and I love her character arc and backstory. She does not have any family to speak of, what with her mother ODing when she was young and her father a criminal dealing in drugs. Her grandparents also passed away so she was alone.
Enter the swoony hero
King AKA Flash is an undercover DEA agent who couldn’t help but fall for Cara! He was another surprising hero because he showed kindness despite wanting revenge.
Lies, Lies, & Lies
The best part of True to You is how Jennifer Ryan handled the lies. Since King was undercover as Flash, an ex-con, he couldn’t be honest to Cara and yet, he was still able to share his heart to her despite lying to her about his identity. It was a gray area and I liked how it was handled.
Emotional and Heartbreaking
What got me, though was the emotion. I empathized with Cara and I ended up rooting for her and King to finally get their HEA!
I also liked that Cara didn’t immediately run into King’s arms. I mean, he STILL lied to her, you know so I liked that she made him sweat a bit. Also, those daily calls even when Cara wasn’t saying anything at all – precious!
That Twist in the End, Though!
The villain here was also surprising and I think belong in the gray area. I have to say that the end was very satisfying.
What struck me was Cara’s relationship (or non-relationship) with her father. I liked how this one ended.
Overall
I 100% recommend this book to everyone who wants a sweet hero and an emotional and heartbreaking romance! I will be reading Jennifer Ryan’s backlist!
