The Case of Authors Behaving Badly

The Case of Authors Behaving Badly

Let’s talk about anything bookish!   Hello, Wormies! A lot has happened in the reading community and as much as I wanted to weigh in on all the brouhaha, I have mostly remained silent on social media. Yesterday, I caved and wrote a longish statement on my personal Facebook wall. But that’s not what my post is all about. Today, I want to talk about authors behaving badly. There have probably been quite a few incidents in the past that have caused uproars in the bookish community as a whole. Clearly, it has become increasingly prevalent because of social media and […]

Blogger Insider: Getting Knocked-Out by the Flu is Not Fun!

Blogger Insider: Getting Knocked-Out by the Flu is Not Fun!

Thoughts, life, and struggles of the blogger (moi) I got knocked down, but I’ll get up again… SOON! If any of you have noticed, I haven’t had any new posts since last Monday’s BFF Discussion.  And why is that, you might ask?  Well, I was KNOCKED-OUT by the FREAKING FLU!  FLU WON THE WAR AND I LOST!  Blogger Insider: Getting Knocked-Out by the Flu is Not Fun!  But now I’m back!So yeah.  I did not get myself vaccinated (and I’m a nurse, but whatever), but I’m blaming Boss (the hubs) for giving me all his germs while he goes off […]

Bookish Discussions: So Much for My Happy Ending

Bookish Discussions: So Much for My Happy Ending

Let’s talk about anything bookish! Let’s talk about sad endings in books.  Do you love them or avoid them like the plague? I have loved Walt Disney fairy tales for as long as I remember.  In fact, I still do.  And since Disney’s fairy tales always end up with a happy ending, I love reading about happy endings.  However, that isn’t saying that I loathe sad endings.  No!  In fact, I also love reading about not so happy endings or sad endings (yes, I love Avril Lavigne’s song “So Much for my Happy Ending“). Let’s talk about happy endings first.  The […]

Bookish Discussions: Eye Catching Book Covers

Bookish Discussions: Eye Catching Book Covers

Let’s talk about anything bookish! Okay, let’s talk covers.  Eye-catching book covers, that is.  What draws you to them?  Do they affect your book choices? A few months back, I wrote a post about eye-catching book covers and titles (minus images because malware happened).  I am going to rewrite this post again and share some of my favorite covers – AGAIN.  Why?  Because I want to! Majority of the books written by new-to-me authors have been chosen based solely on the book covers.  I mean, browsing through the bookstore and library is very daunting (not that I am complaining because I […]

Friday Faves: Featuring the Unhappiness of a Bookworm

Friday Faves: Featuring the Unhappiness of a Bookworm

Friday Faves is a feature where I share whatever bookish thing I saw or share books I read during the week. I said that this weekly feature would only be about faves but for this week, I digress.  This week, I would like to share my thoughts regarding authors (especially self-pubs) that frequently change the TITLE of their books once they are published.  Pet Peeve alert!  This just makes me furious.  Well, not really THAT furious, but still!  I really hate that I can’t keep track of their books because they change title, cover, AND EVEN SERIES! Here is a […]

April 5

April 5

Today is my birthday!  Well, it’s nothing to be happy about since I turned thirty today.  *sigh To those who wished me a happy birthday, thanks.  You guys made my day extra special. While hubby was in class, I explored a local bookstore in Los Feliz.  Starlight Books is really interesting.  It’s small and homey and they have an annex a couple of doors over where they have their graphic novels and comics and artsy books (photography, design, film etc.).   The section that enthralled me was the Young Adult Section, where I picked up a book that I am […]

Top Ten Tuesday Rewind: Bookish Resolutions

Top Ten Tuesday Rewind: Bookish Resolutions

Hosted by The Broke and The Bookish I decided to pick the Top Ten Bookish Resolutions for the rewind topic today.  So far, I haven’t made a dent with this list… figures 🙂 Reach my reading goal of 60 books.  Last year, I was 7 books shy of making my goal.  All of those books were on my currently reading list and I loathe the fact that I wasn’t able to read anything in December.  Check out my 2013 year in [Book] Review. Read books written by Filipino authors.  I am Filipino and I am personally disappointed by myself because […]

February Book DNRs

February Book DNRs

There are times when the books you pick end up as a DNR  (Do Not Resuscitate, yes because I am a nurse, so I have to call it that).  At the first of the month, I had high hopes with my book choices.  In fact, I signed up for a mini challenge hoping to get through my TBR pile in a breeze.  For the most part, I had hoped that by mid month, I would be at least halfway done.  But no.  I just couldn’t get past finishing my choices.  Maybe I was being ambitious.  But I thought picking 5 books […]

Sunday Thoughts and Whatnot

Sunday Thoughts and Whatnot

So, I’ve been pretty lazy these days.  It’s practically mid-month with the 14th looming in the horizon and I have barely finished The Importance of Being Wicked.  Okay, blame it on the fact that I have been exhausted from work and the Boss (hubby) and I have been gallivanting to god knows where.  I know, excuses smexcuses but that’s that. One good thing that came out within the last couple of weeks was the fact that I recently rediscovered the public library system!  For the last couple of years, I have let my library card gather dust so I finally […]
