I Need More Steampunk! Firelight by Kristen Callihan Audiobook Review

I Need More Steampunk! Firelight by Kristen Callihan Audiobook Review

Don’t want to read the whole review?  Click to jump to the Skinny Review. Hello, awesomeness! I am still amazed at how much I love reading steampunk paranormal romance! This is not the genre that I normally read. In fact, the last steampunk paranormal books that I read was The Infernal Devices series by Cassandra Clare and although I enjoyed them, they didn’t make me WANT to read more books from the genre. Kristen Callihan’s Darkest London series is another story! The world that she created is immersive and very interesting! Although this book didn’t receive 5 hearts from […]

Who Would’ve Guessed that I would LOVE Paranormal Steampunk? The Falconer by Elizabeth May Audiobook Review

Who Would’ve Guessed that I would LOVE Paranormal Steampunk? The Falconer by Elizabeth May Audiobook Review

Don’t want to read the whole review?  Click to jump to the Skinny Review. Well, well, well, well. Who would’ve thought that I would enjoy The Falconer so much? The fae, that’s who! *wink I believe this is the very first steampunk paranormal book that BLEW ME AWAY! Yes, it’s that AMAZING! Sure, I enjoyed The Infernal Devices series by Cassandra Clare but that series does not come CLOSE to the amazingness that is The Falconer! The Falconer checked all the boxes for me. Awesome female character? Check! Anti-heroish mysterious character? Check! Spunky, comedic character? Check! Minimal romance? Check! Set in the […]

Over Hyped but Okay? Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh Audiobook Review

Over Hyped but Okay? Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh Audiobook Review

Don’t want to read the whole review?  Click to jump to the Skinny Review. I have to be very honest with you. I was extremely excited when I heard about this book. Supposedly, it has similar themes to Mulan in that our heroine dresses up as a boy. When I finally got around to reading it….uhmm I was in a for a slight let down. It’s not what I expected at all. I thought there would be more action but instead, I got a lot of Mariko’s internal musings. Again, it was okay but the story didn’t blow me away. […]

Romance and Epic Fantasy in one Amazing Book! The Winter King by C. L. Wilson Audiobook Review

Romance and Epic Fantasy in one Amazing Book! The Winter King by C. L. Wilson Audiobook Review

Don’t want to read the whole review?  Click to jump to the Skinny Review. It’s been a while since I wrote a review and I feel that I have become a bit rusty! Anyway, I will try to get my groove back and review away. The Winter King by C. L. Wilson blew me away from the first chapter! It had absolutely EVERYTHING that I love in a fantasy AND a romance book. Kick-ass female? CHECK Broody alpha male? CHECK CHECK Magic and power? CHECK CHECK CHECK Obviously, I am a little late in this book and I absolutely regret not picking this […]

Mila 2.0 by Debra Driza | Audiobook Review

Mila 2.0 by Debra Driza | Audiobook Review

MY THOUGHTS “A girl android?! Gimme!” I was really surprised that I enjoyed Mila 2.0.  I mean, a girl android?!  One who doesn’t know that she is one?!  One who IS a government secret weapon?!  Interesting, right?  I thought so.  In fact, I had a hard time rating the book (so I settled for a 3.5) because I felt there were a lot of holes and a few things that I thought needed more work. Mila 2.0 is about a 16-year-old girl named Mila, who presumably has amnesia.  She can’t recall the events of the fire that killed her father a […]

Graceling by Kristin Cashore | Audiobook Review

Graceling by Kristin Cashore | Audiobook Review

MY THOUGHTS “This audiobook is freaking awesome!” Have you ever read a book featuring FEMALE assassins?  No, scratch that.  Have you ever read a Young Adult book featuring assassins?  I know I’m late in the game but this is the first YA book that I read featuring female assassins and I was blown away!  This story is amazingly well written and unique!  Plus, this is a stand-alone book and does not end on a cliffhanger!  What’s more, there are no freaking LOVE TRIANGLES!  Just a love between a prince and an assassin.  This book has adventure, magic, romance, courage, danger, […]

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer | Audiobook Review

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer | Audiobook Review

My Thoughts “Unique.  I couldn’t put it down! A must read!” Scarlet is the second book in the Lunar Chronicles series and it is my favorite (I’ve also read Cress) so far!  I absolutely love this retelling of Little Red Riding Hood!  Ms. Meyer has a way of merging both stories – Cinder ( a retelling of Cinderella)  and Scarlet.  It is seamlessly done and very well written. Scarlet focuses on the story of  Scarlet Benoit (Little Red Riding Hood) and Wolf in relation to the whole series.  Scarlet’s grandmother, Michelle Benoit an Imperial Pilot (or something) has gone missing […]

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo | Audiobook Review

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo | Audiobook Review

My Thoughts I’ve heard about Shadow and Bone a while back but was mildly interested.  I had begun reading more YA books by then via audiobooks and I enjoy that format when “reading” YA books.  The Boss, who works out of state, decided that he wanted to read more books on his downtown and asked for recommendations.  I honestly shove more YA recommendations his way which he reads without question and even finishes the whole series before I do!  Because of that, I decided to go ahead and read Shadow and Bone since he said it was OK. Let me […]

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare | Book Review

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare | Book Review

I started reading this book because I knew I wanted to read it before seeing the movie (and I did the right thing!  More about the movie in different post). This book was a slow start for me.  In fact, I had to force myself to finish reading it in time for the movie.  It wasn’t that I did not enjoy it, I did but the first few chapters did not catch my interest at all.  I remember starting to read this a few years back but I couldn’t push through. That being said, once I got into the story, […]
