About the Romance Blogger

Sam in Rome
I am a special education teacher at a Catholic high school in Ohio. I have been married for 15 years and we have 2 dogs, Calleigh and Yoda. We got married in Vegas and it was the best decision ever because I am such an introvert that planning a wedding was my version of hell. I love reading and spoiling my dogs!

First Romance Book I Read

Sweet Liar by Jude Deveraux

My roommate in college, Amy, was a huge romance reader. She really wanted me to read one so she gave me Sweet Liar by Jude Deveraux because the heroine’s name was Samantha. I was hooked. I went to Barnes and Noble the next day and bought all Deveraux’s books (this was before readers when you could just go to amazon and download them!).

Ezrah: I don’t think I’ve read Sweet Liar before! I’m definitely checking it out!

Favorite Romance Genre/s

Paranormal Romance and Romantic Suspense

Ezrah: I’m starting to love PNR!

Favorite Romance Trope/s

  • Friends to lovers
  • Fated Mates
  • Opposites attract

Ezrah: Opposites attract is one of my favorite tropes, too!

Top Auto-buy Authors

Nalini Singh, Christine Feehan, Sarina Bowen

Top Romance Books You Highly Recommend

All Played Out by Cora Carmack, The Strongest Steel by Scarlett Cole, The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang

Ezrah: I still haven’t read All Played Out and The Kiss Quotient! I’m so happy that The Strongest Steel is part of Audible Escape! I just borrowed it!

Favorite Quotes from a Romance Book

Favorite Thing About the Romance Community

My favorite thing about the romance community is how open and accepting it is. There is a wide range of romance books: clean to erotic, contemporary to fantasy, YA to adult and yet everyone in the romance community can appreciate that some books are for you and some aren’t. I also love how supportive the community is for the people behind the books/blogs.

Ezrah: Yes, I agree! The romance community is definitely accepting! I also love that there is a romance book for everyone!

Romance Myth that You Hate

I really hate the “mommy porn” concept. First, it denigrates the books to something made purely for sexual gratification and that is disrespectful to the author. Second, it implies that women only read them because they want the sex. I love sex in romance books but I love the way the author weaves a story. When was the last time you saw a porn win an Oscar for its plot or writing? NEVER! So how dare people compare books to porn?

Ezrah: I ABSOLUTELY AGREE! I just hate that term! And I also hate the term “smut.” Gaah, it drives me up the wall.
