Cinder by Marissa Meyer | Book Review

Cinder by Marissa Meyer | Book Review

This is a story about a cyborg named Cinder who lives with her “stepmother” and two “stepsisters.  They are not technically her step anything since she was adopted.   I have mixed feelings about this book.  Although I enjoyed it, I had problems with most of the plot.  This was a pretty quick read for me, but I expected more from reading the blurb. I’ll start with the cons first. Dystopian theme – The story takes place in a dystopian Earth after World War IV in a place called New Beijing.  Supposedly, this country arose in the same location of […]

By Love Unveiled by Sabrina Jeffries | Book Review

By Love Unveiled by Sabrina Jeffries | Book Review

This is a reworked story that has been out of print written by Sabrina Jeffries as Deborah Martin.  Before I give my review, I just want to let everyone know that I have not read the original book so I cannot point out the differences between the two and which parts have been reworked.  That being said, I totally enjoyed reading By Love Unveiled.  I admit that it is different from what I am used to Sabrina writing, but the female protagonist, Marianne is as feisty and strong as her newer heroines. The story starts off with Marianne, masquerading as […]

Her Perfect Match by Jess Michaels | Book Review

Her Perfect Match by Jess Michaels | Book Review

I was anticipating Vivien’s story since I read her in the first book, An Introduction to Pleasure.  Now, reading the first chapter blew me away.  It introduced us to the depraved life of Vivien and how she has been living her life year after year after year.  The first scene actually made me empathize with her as she was trying to find fulfillment in her life.  Considering all the parties and sexual conquests, she was getting fed up with it.  We also get to revisit the previous couples of the other two books and in a way, it makes Vivien […]

Everneath by Brodi Ashton | Book Review

Everneath by Brodi Ashton | Book Review

Everneath is loosely based on the Greek mythology of Persephone and Hades and of Orpheus and Eurydice with mentions of the Egyptian gods Isis and Osiris.  The story starts 6 human months after the feed where the main protagonist Nikki awakens after being sent to the Everneath (or the Underworld).  The Feed or Feeding is the way an Everliving (those immortals that live in the Underworld) can continue their immortal lives by stealing/feeding on the emotions and memories of the living (humans).  The feed lasts for a hundred years which is like 6 months of human time.  Once you have been […]

A Mermaid’s Kiss by Joey W. Hill | Book Review

A Mermaid’s Kiss by Joey W. Hill | Book Review

MY THOUGHTS This story is pretty tough for me to review.  At this time, I do not want to give out a summary of the story and I will just go ahead and give my thoughts.  The story starts, innocently enough with a mermaid, Anna rescuing an angel falling from the sky.  Apparently, this angel, Jonah was wounded in a war between Angels and Dark Ones that has been going on for centuries.  Wounded and unable to fly, Anna saves him and with his direction, brought him to an underwater cavern that has magical properties.  At this point, Jonah asks […]

When in Paris… by Beverley Kendall | Book Review

When in Paris… by Beverley Kendall | Book Review

The book starts in French class when Olivia Montgomery locks eyes with Zachary Pearson her longtime high school crush.  Unbeknownst to Olivia, Zach also shares the same attraction but was giving her the cold/cool attitude because he couldn’t act on his feelings.  Apparently, Olivia’s mother had an affair with his uncle which resulted in divorce.  As a result, he was trying to deny his attraction to her and was pretty much indifferent. Their friendship started when April, Olivia’s best friend invited her to have dinner with another friend Troy, Zach’s roommate.  April and Troy try to match them up together […]

After the Abduction by Sabrina Jeffries | Book Review

After the Abduction by Sabrina Jeffries | Book Review

I am currently reading Sabrina Jeffries’ backlist.  I believe I started reading some of her backlist last year, but I wasn’t able to read any book from the Swanlea Spinster Series.  This book can be read as a stand alone however, there are mentions of the other sisters.  Unfortunately, this story picks up after Juliet gets abducted (hence the title After the Abduction, duh!) so we never get to read about how she was abducted but we do get an answer as to why. As I have mentioned, the story starts about 2 years after Juliet Laverick gets abducted […]

Then Came You by Lisa Kleypas | Book Review

Then Came You by Lisa Kleypas | Book Review

MY THOUGHTS I read the Dreaming of You first and was intrigued by Lily Lawson. In the book Dreaming of You, she was portrayed as a respectable lady albeit with a dubious past. In the first few chapters, I wasn’t warming up to Lily as I should. I thought her antics (especially the one mentioned in the first chapter) were ridiculous. However, as the story progressed, I empathized with her. The hero, Alex Raiford, is not as dark as Derek Craven (who I absolutely love) however, I think he is the perfect match to Lily’s headstrong character. I enjoyed reading the […]
